North Street Quadrant was an important city centre cycle route, but Brighton & Hove City Council has ditched any pretence of re-opening a route for cyclists there.
Three
local cycling groups (Bricycles, Clarion and CTC) drew up this list, which was
given to Stuart Croucher (BHCC Transport Planning Manager) on 29 November 2006.
Controversial traffic calming measures have been instated at some of the road junctions within the development of the New England Quarter (Brighton station site). We also believe that there are air quality issues (NOX) because of the high volumes of traffic now using this area.
Cyclists have a right to cycle on the road. Bus priority lanes are being instated on the A259 coast road and cyclists are to be banned from using some sections.
The city council is proposing changes to North Street (i.e. between Castle Square and Churchill Square) and has already introduced an experimental 20mph speed limit - a measure we fully support.
